Or are they really that different?</p> <p>During Super bowl Sunday, I quietly worked on my computer, every now and then hearing the screams and roars of a touchdown, or a field goal, or a really good commercial. Honestly, all I heard was screaming from 20-somethings about a game which likely they couldn’t play if you handed them the ball. It reminded me of seeing “Twilight” opening night, being the oldest person in the theater, and hearing the SCREAMS when specific moments happened on screen. Oh it was hilarious to me, and made the movie going experience all that more fun. But I digress…</p> <p><img height="279" src="http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/MSNBC/Components/Photo/_new/g-hth-111114-twilight-fans-5p.380;380;7;70.jpg" width="380"/></p> <p>Hearing those adults screaming that Sunday night, made me mull over in my head the similarities between the two fan groups. While they would butt heads worse than Trekkies and Star Wars fans, in that animosity there is a great amount of common traits.</p> <p>1. Both groups have ‘teams’ they are loyal fans of, and will defend said ‘team’ without hesitation from any rival teams.</p> <p>2. Complete disregard to the flaws in their dedication subject (football/Twilight). We won’t point out that football is rugby, but with pads, or that Twilight has a weak lead female. These extreme fans will NOT have that! It doesn’t exist! What they love is BEST!</p> <p>3. Complete disregard for respect for OTHER fans. Twilight fans love to push around others as much as others push them around. Ditto to football fans, who are the butt of many non-sports fans jokes.</p> <p>4. They seriously wear their love. Sure, a normal fan may have a t-shirt, but these people get SERIOUS about dressing up. Be it in bodypaint, sparkles, wigs, costumes…and I’m talking about the football fans! J/K, this applies to both really.</p> <p>5. Men in really tight clothing. Just leaving it there on the table.</p> <p><img height="220" src="http://www.secondact.com/images/fanatics.jpg" width="335"/></p> <p>These are just a few examples, and yes, could be applied to any extreme fan of any sport/fandom. In all my years as a fan, however, I’d say the most vocal (and beat upon) are the Twilight fans, and the most vocal (and joked about) sports fans are the football fans. </p> <p>So there you have it , two totally opposite fans, and yet they have more in common than they’d like to admit to. I’m Fallyn, and I’m a Twilight fan.</p> <p>No, I’m not under the age of seventeen. No, I am not forty with three kids. No, I don’t have infatuation with underage men.  And no, I don’t think Bella is a great character.</p> <p>But hate to break it to you guys, but not all Twilight fans are insane. Just as not all football fans are disrespectful assholes*. Many of us are fully aware of how silly and ridiculous the story is. We know there are ‘better’ vampire stories out there, and its likely we have read them as well. That doesn’t mean that sometimes we like to enjoy in some cheesy goodness. And my cheesy goodness comes in the form of sparkly vampires and emo werewolves.</p> <p><img height="347" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_RSGUHUqz4ec/TCzH8FcGKBI/AAAAAAAAEqU/PuSymHwEdrc/s640/cuar01_twilight0812.jpg" width="493"/></p> <p> I’ll admit to being a Team Edward (more because I dislike werewolves than anything character related), I’m not a fan of Bella, and I love the nomads/Volturi (i.e the bad guys). I also like Batman, TRON, Doctor Who, My Little Pony: FiM, Sailor Moon, Silent Hill, Mortal Kombat, and a variety of other media.</p> <p>In the coming months until the finale release of Breaking Dawn part 2, I will discuss the pros and cons of this serious from the viewpoint of a standard fan. I welcome debate, but will disregard animosity.</p> <p>Like I admitted before, I like MANY fandoms, and freely as many of you do. I went to my female friends for recommendations of the evil guys that they love.</span></p> <p><span class="commentBody"> </span><span class="commentBody">One character mentioned was Chuck Bass from “Gossip Girl.” While I’ve never seen the show, the Wiki indicates him as follows - “The television series character is noted for his financial ambition, hedonistic lifestyle and personal style.” My friend stated that regardless of this, ”we still like him!”</span></p> <p><span class="commentBody"><img alt="Damon Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries)" height="361" src="http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss281/Pixie1019/Man%20Candy/damon_salvatore2.jpg" width="426"/> </span></p> <p><span class="commentBody">Several brought up the bad boys of “The Vampire Diaries.” For most this includes Damon Salvatore, Elijah, Klaus, and many others. These men are powerful, cruel, and confident. Even when they do good things, that underlying evil is always there, and we LOVE IT.</span></p> <p><span class="commentBody">One of the common themes between all these men boils down to simply 2 things: Power & Confidence. While good looks doesn’t hurt, its not a requirement either. The bad boys we like are all about having taking on the world without a second thought as to the reprocussions of their actions, and smile while doing so. That is DAMN sexy to us ladies. Take notes boys! Confidence and ambition is sexy!</span></p> <p><span class="commentBody"> <img height="283" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0WGbbAaNY6w/S8wPhqEM3FI/AAAAAAAAD1Q/h1wriVJeja4/s1600/Bly+Orb.jpg" width="425"/></span></p> <p><span class="commentBody">Another wonderful example from TV of the past is John Bly from “The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.” While I’d never put him on my ‘list’ (if you have seen “Friends”, you know what the -list- is), I can’t deny that he has some sort of pull, maybe due to his casual attitude towards the evils he performs, or the confidence that he can do as he pleases without punishment (even WHEN he is punished, he just takes it with a grain of salt). I can definitely see why Dixie ran with him for that time, and honestly, don’t blame her either. </span></p> <p><span class="commentBody">It is really fun to look into television shows, movies, games, and so forth, and deconstruct why we are always to specific characters. Especially when common sense is that they are written to dislike (thus we would root for the hero).
